"... allowing Vocus Network Services to invest in core long-term strategic fibre opportunities to extend its network reach ..."

Key words there "extending its network reach", so how does Vocus do that, obvious one is more overseas fibre, could also be domestic fibre, say extending to mobile towers, but separation of Optus and Telstra towers still has a fair way to go.

Vocus already has plans to connect NWCS to Timor.Leste (they did the approvals a couple of weeks ago), its also been suggested it could be extended to a domestic Indonesian cable on the western side of the Island but that would be relatively cheap, and the main Timor.Lests extension is an aid project for federal government. Nothing significant enough to stretch finances.

There are long term plans to connect ASC and NWCS, one of the conditions to access a $25m grant from NT Government to increase capacity from Darwin to other capitals, thats not really extending network reach, more enhancing existing network.

Perhaps there are other plans... would love to see a cable north from Darwin through Indonesia to Philippines, there are some key trans-pacific cables it could connect with on the way. But something that significant would probably detract from traffic on ASC, maybe in 5+ years it would make sense...

So im not sure, could still be surprises coming up.
