There is speculation that the world’s largest battery producer, CATL has shut down their lepidolite mine
because of low prices. If true, then this will become a trend followed by others and in the opinion of one
broker, that reduction in supply would turn an expected 1% supply surplus into a 2% deficit and drive
lithium chemical prices higher. When one combines that with heavily shorted lithium stocks, the recipe
for what we are seeing in recent days makes sense
