I am not describing most Australian Telcos though.
Most of them are profitable. ABB, CCG, UWL, ST1, OTW, 5GN are all profitable and most of them report in EBITDA $ while Vonex talks in %.
These guys have had over 10 years to make a profit but have promised and failed time and time again.
