Another tax write-off for a lot of investors. Meydan will suffer most, but he's got billions either way. He could have easily injected another $10M and kept Openpay alive and only risk losing another $1M at most, but enough is enough. He'd prefer to take a $50M loss.

You hit the nail on the head: CEOs are often chief of sales to the shareholders as well as the market. It amazes me the amount of shareholders who join the cult and hang on to the CEOs words. The CEO is treated as the shareholders' best friend, when the opposite is often true.
