They are lowering the levels of a sand dune which is basically about 4km long!
No mining of sand will touch the subterranean water level, and sinking water bores into the aquifier layer is common practice.
The highs of the topography will change, and that is all.
These sand dunes are over 20m high in some parts.
The important point to remember about sand dunes is that nature is constanly moving and reshaping them with the wind anyway!
