LFP battery energy density currently is maxed out at 160 Wh/kg, but it has safety, cycle life and thermal management benefits (cooling) over NMC. The Chinese are making big efforts to use LFP in cars, BYD and CATL have BIG plans with them. Due to characteristics they made really good cell to pack ratio and with making pack integral part of the cars structure the added weight is not such a big deal breaker.

Why Chinese manufacturers wen't into this direction where possible? Because of Nickel and Cobalt supply, that directly means cost. From some sources these Chinese LFP batteries are the cheapest cells, already in the sub $100/kWh category. Think Energy storage.

I don't see much of a problem in using silicone rich anodes in LFP battery, I know the cathode is the really heavy thing in LFP battery, but adding silicon also benefits price not only energy density.

Adding Manganese to LFP and improving energy density by 25%, means that we are in the 200 Wh/kg range, that is really good for a number of applications. But I agree there is no real data, no cycle life, the graph where voltage drops from 4V to 3.5V in the middle of SOC also doesn't look good to me, but I don't know really what it means (thinking of cell balancing and BMS).
