shorters never banned during the GFC.
NAKED shorters were banned, and still are -- this is where u can sell without actually borrowing the stock first.
all shorts today are NOT NAKED, aka. they've previously negotiated to borrow from a holder in advance.
THO, there is a fine line here and in practical terms it probably still does exist.
btw, the above was mainly for the US markets not really the ASX....
