The additional “quality issues” that has been found in my view does not warrant 6 months delay in the project. Replacing 400 small ball valve fittings can probably be done in one month. Unless a lot are in difficult areas! Brett Woods probably doubled the estimated time to be on the safe side.
In the Half Year conference call, Brett Woods said North West Shelf LNG plant will be undergoing a scheduled maintenance in October and he is hoping commissioning of Waitsia could be done before October. Which means due to delays announced today the earliest time for Waitsia Stage 2 commissioning can start will be on November 2024.

    From the AFR:

“Another delay and cost increase,” Mr Ramsay told clients, noting comments from Beach management on a conference call that almost half the project workforce is now carrying out remedial or repair work.

Mr Ramsay noted the latest cost guidance is about 31 per cent up on the previous estimate, implying a downside of about 6 per cent – or 12¢ per share – to RBC’s valuation of the stock. The further delay in the start-up into early 2025 will also push back much of an expected jump in Beach’s production into the 2026 financial year, he said.

    ———-

Beach, which had flagged a further delay and likely further cost increase last May, said on Monday it had found additional “quality issues” at the project during the latter stages of construction. Mr Ramsay said those issues involve the quality of 400 small ball valve fittings, fire systems, non-compliant hydrogen bottles and pipeline over-compaction.
