Just a point of clarity with respect to "output capping" and "quota" verbiage; The legal limitation is on the weight of radioactive material (Mt Weld REE concentrate) put through the LAMP Crack & Leach. At Mt Weld they improved the REE content of the concentrate and they furnace-dried the concentrate so that there is less water being weighed and they were able to increase LAMP "output" by both these means. The recovery has also no doubt improved as well, esp the recovery of Nd-Pr and the SEG and HREE fractions.
Running at 75% of what they could achieve allows them to run continuously all year without worrying about being forced to shut down, which they had to do more than once in past Nov or Dec. It was also done to mitigate staff shortage potential risk during Covid. Also, they were "promised" an increase in the limit but it was never granted even though they made the improvements that were needed to achieve the higher limit.
It will feel great to see that limit mooted by the new KAL-MAL ops. Not as good as seeing 10-12-15 ktpa Nd-Pr plans come to fruition.
