Leigh Clapham
Leigh Clapham is group executive of the Market Development, Europe. In this role, he is responsible for New Business Development which focuses on building our business in specific merchant verticals; and a pan European Expert Product sales team.
His role also includes Customer Economics (Pricing and Interchange) and European Strategy and Acceptance Development.
Previously, Mr. Clapham was responsible for Customer Delivery in Europe. Prior to this position, he was general manager for UK, Ireland and the Nordic region, following over six years as executive vice president, responsible for the MasterCard business in Australia and New Zealand.
Prior to joining MasterCard, Mr. Clapham had an extremely successful career in advertising starting with George Patterson (Australia’s largest agency at the time), followed by DDB for ten years and then Lintas where he worked for over 10 years as managing director, regional director and ultimately in 1997 as chairman (Australia) and a Worldwide Board Director.
Mr. Clapham worked with many major clients including Nestle, Unilever, Coca-Cola, NEC and Commonwealth Bank. He also managed the MasterCard account from 1991 to 1998. In addition, from 1998 to 2000, he served as federal chairman of the Advertising Federation of Australia (AFA).
After leaving Lintas, Mr. Clapham became managing director of 141 Communications at Cordiant Communications Group Australia, responsible for five companies covering sales promotion, research, public relations, and design. He was then appointed to the Worldwide Management Group of 141 and managing director of Expanded Media Holdings, a holding company for four independently run businesses covering Internet/e-business, recruitment, retail and outdoor advertising.
Mr. Clapham was previously a Board Member of the Cure Cancer Australia Foundation and a director for Tourism and Transport Forum Australia, an independent industry group representing Australia's tourism and transport industries, with a particular focus on government relations. He also served on the Board of the Advertising Standards Bureau, overseeing advertising standards across all media in Australia.
