You make some good points, but ultimately that line of reasoning leads to a policy of appeasement (Chamberlain-like). Concession after concession is made to the dominant power, leading eventually to capitulation -- all in the interests of 'keeping the peace', of course. The truth is that there are bad actors and evil dictatorships in the world which have to be confronted if they are to cease and desist. The alternative is submission and capitulation to tyranny. There are nasty choices here, for sure, but choices have to be made.
