Wolfram Camp was abandoned at a time when Qld did not have the appropriate measures and legislation in place to ensure that mines were properly rehabilitated prior to exfiltration.
As we now know, Qld has much more stringent expectations of mining companies in this regard and this is much less likely to happen on such a scale.
The Qld Govt (and State Govts generally) know this more than anyone as WC has provided a huge liability to them in terms of protecting and safeguarding the community.
The Qld Govt also know that WC still has a lot of "commercial product" in situ and have accordingly launched the Abandoned Mines project - the Wolfram Camp project is a pilot program so they have put this to tender to literally "partner" with a responsible and ethical company of good management and expertise to breathe life back into this mine, resurrect it, alleviate themselves of their liability and generate employment for the local area and Qld as a whole.
The Qld Govt will not unnecessarily burden the successful bidder with the sins of remediation of the previous mine owner/operator - and neither will the successful bidder blindly unconditionally sit under the sword of Damocles in this regard.
This will be a partnered and cooperative relationship with mutually beneficial outcomes for the Govt and the successful bidder.
And if this happens to land in the extremely capable hands of Oliver, Kevin and team, noone would be more delighted than the Qld Govt themselves - the kudos for them would be enormous.
I dont believe there would be any negatives in this outcome - it would simply be a matter of how big the positives for EQR would be.
There will not be any expectation of immediacy for the Qld Govt - should it go to EQR, they will be afforded sufficient time to accommodate WC into their project timelines when the opportunity and the cash presents itself - and THEY will most certainly have sufficient cash by the time they have to put boots on the ground, and only in their time.
