The MK2 reactor vessel itself was ready in 2023, I recall, and they seemed to be targeting Q2 2024 installation. But then there was an abrupt change of plan, and they continued to run the full test program on MK1.
The only explanation that works for me is that they decided to gather as much data as possible from MK1 - and now also the Canada prototype (a second-generation design) - before finalising MK2, i.e. going ahead with the crucial machining and refractory lining.I don't think it would have fallen by the wayside. More likely, they've taken time to bulletproof the final design.
