@Pebbles83 you touched on a good point.
How many retail investors are aware whether they are the actual owners of the shares, or whether the broker/fund manager they use actually owns the shares on their behalf and the investor simply has a right to the shares...If the broker/fund manager owns the shares, then you are standing in line with creditors if the shit hits the fan. Also...they vote on your behalf.
Some of the cheap online brokers also have other powers.
