It has nothing to do with the case shutting..
If a device has MRAM inside of it, any magnetic fields could potentially erase data from the NVM inside the device.
This happens because the MRAM device gets upset with external sources of magnetic material and affects its ability to store information. This could be as simple as walking past an MRI device. Poof, memory erased.
This is different from radiation and 'RadHard' which MRAM certainly is.
