it's probably important in this case to consider what is controlling that display interaction with that simple application, a raspberry pi. A lightweight piece of hardware. The metrics of the actual chip are displayed there which are in, you can see the "get" time (time to read from memory) looks like 901 µs (microseconds). I would imagine it is therefore a limitation of the raspberry pi rather than the memory itself.
A raspberry pi is a piece of equipment that is easy to configure and set up for a quick demo like this running a simple application. I get your sentiment but the important bits of this demo are the stats it displays and the non-volatile aspect.
