Covid impact: earlier this week Endeavour reported a Covid infection at their Hounde Mine. West African has reported no cases - we understand many measures are in place to restrict and lower incoming and outgoing travel. In our view, infections would appear inevitable at most mines, so West African’s approach of having an isolation block is a practical solution, and many employees worked through a similar crisis in Guinea in 2014-15 with Ebola. Similarly, the supply chain is intact thus far, and the company’s ability to stockpile reagents further mitigates supply restrictions. The country sells fuel at a fixed price, creating liquidity for the government as oil prices fall, an important point to ensure state liquidity through the crisis. While we would never say never, between balance sheet and practical measures, the company appears well-placed to weather the storm.
