US dollar devalues due to ridiculous amount of stimulus. Aussie dollar devalues against other currencies but not as much as US dollar as stimulus less per head of population
So AUD appreciates against USD but not against other currencies.
Devaluing USD will eventually cause inflation which eats away at asset values in real terms so gold becomes an obvious hedge against inflation.
