Not sure how they missed a fault with a 200m throw on state of the art 3D seismic, but never mind
Even with state of the art 3D seismic the only way they can determine depths is from the time it takes echoes to return.
This requires that they have an accurate profile of the seismic velocity as a function of depth. With no previous drill holes to determine this profile all they can do is use a best estimate. Good news though. It is likely that their target will be at a shallower depth than they have previously given.
