There was a Futurama episode that comes to mind from all this. Conman from the past comes out of Cryo, decides to make the shipping company huge.
He did this by making confusing ads unrelated to the company, plenty of presentations about the future of the industry, and eventually the bigger companies decided to buy them out instead of potentially competing, despite him never doing anything to improve the shipping company.
that's where we are. Telling people we have millions of ounces of gold, and when someone says "what's your plan for the gold?", WWI snap into action with "Why? You looking to buy?"
