    Can't see interest rates rising by 3.5%. We've taken on so much debt, that even a 1% increase in rates would cause significant spending cuts by indebted households. Significant enough to reign in excessive spending causing inflation. But low rates aren't necessarily bad for banks really - if you look at Westpac, even with rates near 0%, they still earned $16 billion in net interest income. Now, if WBC can just get costs back down, they'll be earning huge profits again - despite the low interest rates.
