There are many dots to join here and they will not all be joined until Tesla’s Battery Day. The media seem to think the CATL supplied Tesla MIC Model 3 million mile LFP battery is the end of the story, it is not. Tesla is has something much more and pulling together several chemistry and manufacturing improvements into a new battery that will change the Li ion battery world.

They have announced some astounding specifications on yet to be produced cars, such as a 500 mile range Cybertruck and a 600 mile range Roadster.

Now where would you fit the battery into a diminutive sports car and give a 600 mile range? With current battery tech,there would be no room for the driver!

So something big is coming and it is not just Single Crystal Cathode, that is already out there and probably in the new CATL LFP battery. The Novonix DPMG process could be the reason for the delay in the Tesla announcement, as it looks like a significant step forward in manufacturing the Single Crystal materials for both Anode and Cathode, with the added features of being cheaper, simpler, lower cost and a 100% yield. This all matters a great deal when producing billions of cells per year.

Tesla also have new chemistry and manufacturing tech from their recent acquisitions of Maxwell Technologies and Hibar. They also have new Electrolite additives from the Jeff Dahn Dalhousie team, which also improve battery degradation and longevity.

The result of all these improvements put together, will be the subject of Tesla’s Battery Day which will hopefully blow our minds, and solve the riddle of how the roadster can have a 600 mile range and still have enough space for the driver!
