Industrea Limited (ASX:IDL) today announced its wholly owned subsidiary Advanced
Mining Technologies (AMT) had further consolidated its position as a leading
provider of collision avoidance technology in South America after being awarded a
contract by BHP Billiton in Chile.
AMT will supply and co-ordinate the installation of CAS-CAM collision avoidance
technology in BHP Billiton’s Minera Spence copper mine under a US$1.3million
contract.
It follows AMT securing a major contract with Anglo American Chile, a member of the
Anglo American Group, in March; and sales of CAS-CAM to BMA mines in the
Bowen Basin, Qld and Anglo Coal Australia in Qld and NSW.
Industrea opened its office in Chile in late 2007 in recognition of the considerable
growth of the South American mining industry.
Industrea Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Robin Levison, said
Industrea’s investment in South America was paying off.
“The South American mining industry continues to grow strongly and these two major
contracts are evidence that Industrea is recognised as a leading provider of mining
products and services not just in Australia, but across the globe,” Mr Levison said.
“The contracts will allow us to strengthen our relations in South America and provide
the foundations for further penetrating this safety conscious market.”
Mr Levison said the diversification from principally coal mines in Australia to basemetal
mines in Chile indicated that CAS-CAM was being adopted as the preferred
collision avoidance technology by the leading mining houses.
Minera Spence will be AMT’s sixth CAS-CAM installation in Chile.
The Minera Spence copper mining operation is located in the northern region of Chile
near the town of Sierra Gorda, 150 kilometres north east of Antofagasta.
The CAS-CAM system has been selected to reduce the potential for collision
between heavy surface mobile equipment, light vehicles and improving safety of
employees on-site.
The AMT Collision Avoidance Camera System (CAS-CAM) improves operator
visibility by eliminating blind spots around heavy surface mobile equipment.
Incidents involving poor visibility for drivers are a major source of reportable safety
incidents in surface mining operations every year.
The introduction of CAS-CAM technology can significantly improve the safety of
employees and reduces production and operation losses as a direct result of safety
related incidents involving mobile equipment on mining sites.
