My lithium exposure is modest and primarily limited to two companies - WR1 and ASN. My basic concern with lithium is as follows.
1. My suspicion is that the world lithium market is being manipulated.
2. Currently, at the prevailing international lithium price the value of both lithium suppliers and prospective suppliers (i.e. explorers) is weak.
3. This is discouraging investment in explorers, hence the generally depressed SP/MC of explorer companies.
4. As lithium demand continues to rise as projected (over years) greater investment in the sector will eventuate and the explorer sector will eventually become part of the supplier sector.
5. However, as I monitor the explorer sector, the number of explorers and eventual miners/suppliers seems to increase expotentially, almose every day.
6. On the basis that demand will drive supply, my concern is that the total possible lithium supply from all the relevant ASX companies (not to mention those not ASX listed) will eventually surpass even the most bullish estimates of demand, and we will again be in the downward spiril of too many suppliers chasing too little demand.
My question - is any poster aware of any study that puts a number on the total potential lithium output (estimated on reasonable assumptions) of all declared ASX listed explorer/miners (to date) at what assumed price and at what projected cost of production.
Maybe my question is naive but it seems to me that this is the sort of analysis that the sector really needs.
