Treasurer Josh Frydenberg announced on Thursday that the Australian Office of Financial Management (AOFM) will be provided with a $15 billion investment capacity to purchase issuance from small non-bank lenders over a 12 month period.

Though it lends to individuals and not SMEs, debt crowdfunding pioneer SocietyOne said benefits of the $15 billion stimulus would have inadvertent benefits for its model.

"Many of our personal loan borrowers are employed by small businesses," said CEO Mark Jones. "The government package should help SMEs continue to employ their staff through these difficult times, which in turn means we can continue to lend to borrowers employed by SMEs where they have a short term need for finance."
