Common broker tactics to accumulate a sizable parcel.
1. Stir it up by buying quick to push up price. This will attract sellers.
2. Sell a bit to start the snowball effect. This will attract more sellers as they fear the higher prices cannot be maintained.
3. Start buying at lower prices until sellers are exhausted as indicated by lower volumes.
4. Repeat the process until they are filled with cheap shares.

This process create most of the "market noises". It is always the amateur day traders that get screwed.
