The west is so far far behind China when it comes to batteries. If Trump is elected he may have a EV surprise just to try compete with them because he's a competitive bloke.
It doesn't the Nickel market help that China has done a great job making LFP batteries longer range. Although NCM has the highest energy density so it will be required for anything with big like a truck, bus or aircraft. Still early stages with the energy transition, there will be lots of ups and downs.
