I think people need to keep some perspective here. 100% agree that the sell off isn't great however a chunk of the market was red today and just on 1.5% of the company (including the Chi-X) traded today with an average sell of just on $3,000 per trade. If you take the 3 larger trades as mentioned above then this is around $1,750 per trade...
The large trades today could have been:
1. Someone knowing something before the rest of us - I would think there would have been more larger trades though if this was the case
2. Someone seeing the futures and / or needing the cash to buy something else on discount or cover a position
3. Brokers Selling to themselves on the Buy side... happens more then people suspect.
Only time will tell but not panic stations just yet imo.
