They are rightfully grilling Woodside on the remediation liability. Because Woodside do not know what it will cost. BHP did not have an accurate grasp on it, and they and Exxon have been looking at this for well over 5yrs now, since 2014. It's a massive unknown and a big gamble. BHP and Exxon were speculating they can adopt the GOM philosophy of offshore disposal. Old assets in rough seas are going to be a extremely difficult proposition to manage.
The SP response speaks for itself. The BHP operated North West assets are aged and not maintained to the usual Woodside gold standard that they look after their assets. Overall it's a terrible deal IMO. Sell the farm to fix a short term funding shortfall issue.
