Isn’t this chicken and egg stuff? Magnis needs these battery factories to sell their graphite to, and these battery factories need graphite (not necessarily from Magnis) before they can begin operation. So the mine, and the factories (multiple factories for the volume Magnis are talking about) need to be built simultaneously with the mine being commissioned just before these factories become operational.
So that’s ~$280m for the mine, at the same time the factories (multiple) are being built, for how much exactly?
While I know it’s not a fair comparison for a host of reasons, the Panasonic/Tesla factory was built at an estimated cost of US$5b.
That’s a hell of a funding black-hole to fill.
