Basically 1.2m miles = 1,931,210 km
For an average speed of 65 kph means 29,710 hours of driving or 1,238 days or 3.3 years of continuous driving.
Teslas sold from its existence until today (2008 – Q3 2023): 4,962,975 vehicles.
If they all need eventually 14 motors replaced that's about 70 million.
With 520 g/motor rare earth per motors suggests 36,000 tonnes of rare earths. Elon has done his calculations!
because....
....according to Tesla's presentations its so-called Next Generation Permanent Magnet Motor will take that figure down to 0g.
All the above is only for Tesla. Factor in Cars from Europe and China and Ionic is going to have a jolly old time until the non rare earth motors become available in number.
