perfectly normal. I’ve worked in IT projects area for 20 + years & capitalisation of IT projects / development is absolutely a normal accounting practice. What is changing though is on the client side. With the move to SaaS applications, clients no longer have on-premise installations that they previously capitalised. They now “subscribe” to a SaaS offering and that becomes an operating expense. The job of updating / improving and adding value to the software has shifted from client back to vendor.
