That is standard practice that all software companies in the world follow. Both JCAP (2nd report) and Wisetech (1st response) have agreed this is normal.
The only company I've ever seen do it differently is technology one, and they changed to do things the usual way a couple of years ago (I think their accountants told them they had to follow standard accounting practices).
