I think, an external person would have been a stronger signal to the market.
Playing the devils advocate: one could negotiate like "if this ship sinks, I want to leave as an CEO - or I reconsider my options now".
However, this might rather reflect on me and how I would act in case of a critical situation. But hey, let`s stay positive, trust - and wait...
