Have a look at the last Discussion with Alex post by m0ngy. From my recollection of this post the geos thought that gold had petered out at the pit fault so they had no interest in it. Then they found historical records that said that the gold continued but there was water intrusion from the fault. With modern mining tech that's not a big problem these days so they started to actively explore at the location and plotting the pit fault. Of course faults from the Shear control gold mineralisation so this is now very prospective
