cancers that are more treatable through this FTO inhibition.

But, essentially, just asking, is colorectal cancer still colorectal cancer if it spreads outside the bowel,
and is it generally treated with the "cornerstone" drug 5-FU?

I haven't mentioned anything regarding this to my brother in law yet, as I don't want to send him down
rabbit holes needlessly, on crazy advice from me.

A very good question.

Yes, it's still colorectal cancer. Cancers are defined by the organ or cell of origin, wherever it has spread to. If it has spread, it's known as ''metastatic". So your partner's brother has colorectal cancer with nodal metastases. 5FU based chemo is generally standard of care.
