Byond-Zen,
""Let's hope for peace for myriad reasons, including Volt! ""
I noticed you have highlighted some snap shots of recent headlines describing the current Russian and Ukraine situation. Given you have highlighted this information and obviously brought it to the attention of shareholders I will attempt to give you my thoughts on the current situation. I have had a number of people ask me recently what my feelings are in relation to this conflict.
Given that I have a sizeable investment in Volt, it stands to reason why myself and any shareholder for that matter would take a passing interest in the events currently unfolding between these two countries.
For that reason I have highlighted some crucial points for those Volt shareholders who may be interested in what is currently going on and what are the chances of it having an impact on Volt's graphite mine in the Ukraine.
To begin with, if Russia did decide to invade the Ukraine, the world will be on tender hooks because more than likely it won't just stop there .
So any person who has money invested in the sharemarket around the world would be watching closely . So far there has been no evidence of stockmarkets collapsing around the globe which gives one some confidence that for the time being at least, it's not believing that Russia will invade the Ukraine.
And from what I have read recently it would make sense that the rest of the world would come together and make sure that this invasion does not occur. It must set a precedent that this type of behaviour is not acceptable and will not be tolerated for the sake of world peace. Nato has made it quite clear that Russia does not have the right to dictate to the Ukraine that they never be allowed to join Nato. For those who may not know what Nato stands for. It promotes democratic values and enables members to consult and cooperate on defence and security-related issues to solve problems, build trust and, in the long run, prevent conflict. From memory there are about 30 different countries who are current members. The Ukraine has made their intentions clear that they would like to join that group of countries and become a member..
I can only imagine that these other countries who make up Nato would not be happy watching Russia's aggressiveness toward the Ukraine.
For the sake of all living in the Ukraine, I am hoping common sense prevails because if Russia is successful, it will have huge consequences. Russia is basically picking a fight with many powerful countries including America, The United Kingdom, Germany, France just to name a few.
They have all been long standing members for the past 70 years.
A senior Western intelligence official has warned that if Russia decides to invade Ukraine, a conflict could spill over further into Europe. Speaking to journalists, including the BBC, the senior intelligence official, who asked not to be named, said: "Let's not be blind. If Russia initiates a scenario of any kind it will also initiate action against Nato members"."To think war could be contained to one nation would be foolish," they added. Those concerns have been echoed by Britain's most senior military officer. On Tuesday, the Chief of the Defence Staff, Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, told reporters: "The significance of the worst scenarios in terms of a full-scale invasion would be on a scale not seen in Europe since the Second World War".
The Western defence official said that if Russia chose to carry out an attack now it could do so. But he said Russian forces massed on the border were still missing some crucial elements - such as full logistical support, ammunition stocks, field hospitals and blood banks.
The US and Nato have made clear they want a dialogue with Russia to avoid conflict, and Moscow wants dialogue to continue, too. President Biden's virtual meeting with President Putin earlier this week was a start and will be followed up by more talks with other Nato members.
Russia wants assurances that Ukraine will never be allowed to join Nato. That Nato members will have no permanent forces or infrastructure based in Ukraine; and for a halt to military exercises near Russia's border. Nato insists it is a defensive alliance and not a threat to Russia. But the alliance has also made clear that it believes that Ukraine has a right to make its own decisions as a sovereign nation, and it is not willing to give Russia a veto on Ukraine's future.
Personally, my thoughts are that conflict will be diverted.. Unless of course if Russia wants to alienate itself from the rest of the world, risk military action from other Nato members, and have sanctions imposed on it that will cause more it financial and economic stress at a time where they and most countries have already got serious debt problems caused by covid.
With all that is going on right now with this constant covid strain, I guess it's fair to suggest the World doesn't need more drama.
Have a good weekend all.
