UBS see this as cannibalisation from their higher margin transaction but my thoughts that ZIP's strategy is to steal market share from its competitor's (eg. APT).
At the same time, merchants will see this as an opportunity to save on BNPL merchants fees by driving consumers to use the tap pay option which has a lower merchant fee whilst the consumer still gains the benefit of BNPL. for the consumer tap pay is the easier, well familar option. personally i find it easier to use tap pay then opening an app and generating a code/ barcode.
Lets wait and see how the enivornment changes over the next few months. if this does hurt APT they may need to lower their merchants fees.
