SM Energy Reports First Operated Niobrara Well In Powder River Basin
SM Energy (SM) reported an update on the company’s Niobrara exploration and development program in the Powder River Basin.
SM Energy said that the 135 NH well, the company’s first operated well in the Niobrara, produced an average of 330 barrels of oil equivalent (BOE) per day during the first ten days of production. The management of SM Energy said that the 135 NH Niobrara well “encountered light oil, over pressure, and a high GOR, but the rock appears to be very tight.”
SM Energy previously drilled five successful horizontal wells into the Niobrara in the Denver Julesburg Basin and is now trying to replicate that success in the Powder River Basin. The names and 30 day average production rates of the previous Niobrara wells are:
Atlas 1-19H - 536 BOE per day
Peacekeeper 1-29H - 280 BOE per day
Polaris 1-24H - 599 BOE per day
Jupiter 1-18H - 276 BOE per day
Patriot 1-19H - 194 BOE per day
