excitement plus The "excitement" you detected could be (at this stage of the well) justified...

The theory being tested by BAS in this well is that the original well was drilled on the edge of the structure rather than at the top. It was drilled in the wrong place because the original 2D seismic data showed that it should be drilled there. The original seismic was flawed because of depth conversion problems.

Using the new 3D seismic, the geologists adjusted the picture to allow for the depth conversion errors, and thus arrived at a new target, which they are now testing.

The reason for today's excitement is the fact that the Gurnard formation occurred pretty well where the new seismic suggested it would, and so there is increased optimism that the theory is correct.

I would not be surprised if we look back on today's announcement as being v-e-r-y significant.
