Samson Oil & Gas moves ahead with Wyoming well after clearing troublesome salt section Friday, May 18, 2012 by Bevis Yeo
Samson Oil & Gas' (ASX: SSN) Spirit of America II well in the Hawk Springs Project in Goshen County, Wyoming, has successfully drilled past the salt section that had caused the first well to be abandoned.
Heavy weight oil based mud was used along with a very conservative drilling approach to achieve this and the well is now being cased prior to penetrating two targets defined by 3D seismic.
Samson has also started oil production at its Defender US33 2-29H well at average rates of about 50 barrels per day after installing a jet pump.
The company is currently running bottom hole pressure gauges to optimise the jet pump operations.
Samson also expects to start within 2 weeks production from the Gretel II 12KA3 1-30H well in Roosevelt County, Montana, after completing workover operations.
All of the surface equipment, tanks, beam pump, separator and heater-treater are on site and are expected to be installed during this period.
The workover rig has moved on to remove the clean out string from the Australia II 12KA6 1-29H well and run the production string, pump and pump rods.
Surface facilities are largely complete with the beam pump, tanks, separator, and heater-treater all installed. Various electrical controls will be installed once the completion string is in place.
