A new director brings expertise:
At the moment all companies need
1. Capital
2. Market Exposure (to assist in raising capital)
3. Accounting skills (to assist in raising capital)
4. Access to Capital
In principle, the new director will have all or most of these three (in the interests of raising capital when needed)
