Mr Bradley rejected suggestions from Cougar Energy that the Department had acted on the basis of a single test result which the company had since advised was due to laboratory error.

"While the company advises of one erroneous test result, DERM's action has been taken on the basis of multiple exceedances and we will not take risks with community health or the environment.

"There have been 9 positive detections by the company's testing and DERM's independent testing this weekend showing benzene and toluene at the company's bore."

DERM also remains concerned that the company's detection of exceedances in test results were reported by the company after a significant delay.
