this article in the Aust today says FID on Santos and BG LNG projects was expected soon, and that Qld is looking for special treatment for CSM projects in order to ensure they progress.

Boadicea Bligh

IF there is one identifiable good generated by the Rudd RSPT, it is that it seems to have quickly plastered over the nasty fractures between the Bligh government and the state's resources sector caused by the contested QR IPO.

From dissing the coal companies over the IPO, Anna Bligh is suddenly the sector's Boadicea, preparing to lead a charge to Canberra to see that Rudd & Co understand the need to fine-tune the proposed RSPT and that they provide "special consideration" for coal seam methane.

Interestingly, there was some speculation doing the rounds of the miners yesterday to the effect that the feds were of a mind to provide some headroom for Queensland's prospective CSM producers.

Queensland is, of course, on the cusp of a $50 billion methane-to-LNG investment boom and, until two weeks ago at least, two companies -- Australian-owned Santos and British-based BG Group -- were said to be within months, if not weeks, of final investment decisions on two separate projects to be based on Curtis Island, off Gladstone. Santos has delayed its decision pending clarity on the impact of the RSPT while it would seem likely that BG has also put investment decisions on hold.

On Monday, Bligh said the federal government would threaten jobs if it did not get the RSPT right. And her attitude was echoed by South Australian Treasurer Kevin Foley, who is urging meaningful consultation on the RSPT framework to ensure that the $20bn-plus Olympic Dam project has some kind of future.
