Anning's response was not weighted to the event. He also went back again when a 17year old kid (albeit silly kid) was under restraint. It's a mark of the quality of the man's courage, the manner in which he attacked a restrained person and the size of his target.

And I'm not excusing the egg throwing. While minor in scale it still adds to the angst and doesn't help anyone, regardless of intent.
