JANUARY - A SOARING MONTH FOR ONLINE REAL ESTATE
Leading real estate portal records the most ever number of visitors to website
January proved to be a month when Australians were glued to their computer screens searching
for that perfect piece of real estate.
Australia’s most popular property website, realestate.com.au, recorded its highest-ever
numbers of visitors during a month, indicating that the interest in the property market has not
faltered, in spite of a flat market in the latter part of 2004.
In January, 1.6 million1 Australian and international property hunters visited
realestate.com.au, a massive 81% more than January last year and a 16% increase over the
previous highest monthly figure.
Last month also saw realestate.com.au extend its lead over second placed domain.com.au. In
January, realestate.com.au had 652,850 more visitors2 than domain.com.au compared to
December when the gap was 600,309.
A recent visitor survey indicated that 51% of the visitors to realestate.com.au were considering
buying a property, 20% were looking to rent and 18% were monitoring the market.
“With up to 160,000 visitors a day, the take-up of realestate.com.au reflects continued growth of
the Internet as the best medium for finding property to buy and to rent,” said realestate.com.au
CEO, Simon Baker.
As at the end of January, realestate.com.au had 5,895 agents advertising 330,000 residential
and commercial properties for sale and for rent.
