Lawyers and plaintiffs don't worry about bringing companies down, they sink one and move onto whoever has the money to pay. I have seen things twisted so far out of whack in court, it would make your eyes pop.

General rule of thumb for Lawyers is hold everyone responsible and see who pays. This may sound absurd but a lawyer could actually get a court to believe that Louisiana (the State) is partially responsible because they gave a permit to drill.
