TANZANIA: Aminex Plc's wholly-owned subsidiary Ndovu Resources Ltd. successfully ran and cemented the 9-5/8-inch casing in the Kiliwani-1 well on the Nyuni/East Songo-Songo licence offshore Tanzania. The procedure was completed on at 6:00 a.m. local time on Jan. 28 to a measured depth of 7,415 feet (2,260 m).

Since then a number of trips in and out of the hole have been required to remove debris from a broken drill bit. The rig is currently cleaning the hole to remove the debris. On completion of this operation, the rig will drill down about 10 feet (3 m) and the well will be pressure tested prior to drilling ahead into the primary target interval at around 7,677 feet (2,340 m) in the Lower Cretaceous sands.

Maurel & Prom land rig Caroil-6 is directionally drilling Kiliwani-1 from the small island of Kiliwani, less than a mile (1 km) southeast of Songo-Songo Island. The well is being drilled to a bottom hole location approximately 3,937 feet (1,200 m) from the surface location. Measured depth is planned to be about 8,202 feet (2,500 m) ending in a target location designed to test Lower Cretaceous sand stones that are the reservoirs at the producing Songo-Songo natural gas field.

Aminex's Ndovu operates the Nyuni joint venture with 39 percent interest. The remaining joint venture partners are RAK Gas Commission with 25 percent interest, Key Petroleum Ltd. with 20 percent interest, East African Exploration Ltd. with 10 percent interest and Bounty Oil & Gas NL with six percent interest.
