ASX ANNOUNCEMENT
Independent assessment of Dolocrete® Technology
Sydney, Thursday, 10 July 2003.
The Directors are pleased to announce the Company’s technology, Dolocrete®, has
been independently assessed by the Victorian Environment Protection Authority
(EPA Victoria). This review was undertaken in consideration of the EPA Victoria’s
current strategy for the implementation of the industrial waste management
policy (Prescribed Industrial Waste). The review concluded:
“This policy seeks to minimise the generation of prescribed industrial waste through
the application of the waste hierarchy. In addition, it is fundamental that the EPA
seek to protect the environment from hazards that may be posed by residual
prescribed industrial waste streams.
In an endeavour to better understand your process, EPA recently engaged a
consultant to conduct an assessment of the Dolocrete® technology for the treatment
of electric arc furnace dust. The assessment indicated that this waste material had
been effectively stabilised, resulting in significantly reduced leachability for heavy
metals with minimal bulking of the waste stream.
Given the results of the assessment, the EPA would regard this type of technology
as best practice fixation technology for the treatment of prescribed wastes that are
unavoidable and unable to be managed further up the waste stream hierarchy i.e.
by a higher order option such as reuse or recycling”.
“EPA has also recently engaged consultants to develop draft design criteria for a
containment facility. Such a containment facility will be designed to accept
prescribed industrial waste streams that cannot be managed further up the waste
hierarchy. EPA Victoria recognises that the application of the Dolocrete® type
treatment technology can result in a high degree of chemical stabilisation.
Hence, the information the EPA has gained from this assessment will be
incorporated into the development of draft design criteria for a containment
facility. This will seek to ensure that such a facility caters appropriately for
both untreated and treated prescribed industrial waste”.
Dolomatrix commend the endeavours of the EPA in its strategy for the future
treatment of prescribed industrial waste generated in Victoria and look forward to a
close working relationship in their new strategy. Dolomatrix are currently
undertaking treatment evaluations with several waste generators in Victoria.
