G'day psi,
I defer to your undoubted knowledge in this area, but I just keep coming back to the fact that RIO hold leases along the boundary of CTP's existing tenements (and I think some under application). I presume that RIO (like CTP) see potential to exploit the coal at some time in the future, otherwise why would they bother hanging on to these leases. RIO have shown their "hand" just recently (so far as coal acquisitions go) with their bid for Riversdale (RIV) which has its "foot" on 13 billion tonnes of coking coal in Mozambique. Please don't get me wrong. I'm NOT suggesting RIO as a joint venture possibility, just pointing out their interest in coal as a commodity in high demand going forward.
It is not too "left field" to think that a huge coal resource (even at such depth) in the centre of Australia, could be exploited at some time in the not too distant future given the anticipated vast demand from China and more importantly India. The point of all this? CTP's coal still might have a brighter future than some on Hotcopper suggest.
Regards,
Goggo
